The $1.4 trillion world of private credit is gaining traction beyond its traditional US and European markets, as private lenders look to exploit coverage gaps and take advantage of faltering bank appetite.

That’s according to a report by industry body Global Private Capital Association (GPCA), which represents investors managing more than $2 trillion in assets in developing regions. Companies in Asia, Africa, central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Latin America collectively borrowed the most on record from private credit firms last year, according to GPCA data.
