Exchanges develop ESG metrics for GCC-listed firms

An association of Mena-based exchanges has published a set of ESG disclosure metrics for listed firms in the region.

The GCC Exchanges Committee stated that the metrics comprise 29 standards aligned with the Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative developed by the World Federation of Exchanges.

These standards cover GHG emissions, energy and water usage, employee turnover, gender diversity, data privacy, ethics and more.

They are voluntary and do not replace the existing guidelines on ESG disclosure previously issued by the GCC exchanges but are seen as a necessary step to align the differences in reporting standards across the region.

The committee is currently chaired by the Saudi Exchange and includes Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, Bahrain Bourse, Boursa Kuwait, Qatar Stock Exchange, Muscat Stock Exchange, Saudi Exchange and Dubai Financial Market.
