Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) has appointed Roland Chai to serve as Group Risk Officer, effective 1 June 2018.

Mr Chai will report to HKEX Chief Executive Charles Li and take direct responsibility for Group Credit & Quantitative Analysis, Enterprise Risk Management at HKEX and HKEX’s Corporate Information Security Office.  He will also have functional oversight of risk functions at the London Metal Exchange (LME) and LME Clear.  Clearing Risk Management at HKEX will continue to report directly to Calvin Tai, HKEX’s Head of Clearing, and there will be a functional reporting line to Mr Chai.

Mr Chai joined HKEX in June 2017 as Chief Operating Officer of Clearing and Head of Clearing Risk Solutions.  He has managed Clearing Risk Management at HKEX and developed strategies to address regulatory and commercial challenges across HKEX’s clearing houses and clearing platforms. 

Mr Chai has 20 years’ experience in various exchanges, financial institutions and IT firms, the last eight of which were at LCH in London where he was Head of Equities.  Roland holds a double degree in Arts and Law from the University of Sydney in Australia.
