William Redmond Power II

February 26, 1945 - May 28, 2021

William Redmond Power (1945 - 2021) William Redmond Power, II, financial leader, entrepreneur, community activist, friend, spouse, sibling, and father. His brilliance and verbal skills were remarkable, as well as his energy, generosity, and skill in building successful businesses and helping friends make the most of their opportunities. He surrendered to the ravages of Frontotemporal Dementia on Friday, May 28, in the company of his wife and in the endearing care of Harbor House Memory Care in Wheeling, IL and Lightways Hospice. Bill was born in Atlantic City, NJ to William Redmond Power and Nan Kieran Power. He is a graduate of the Brooklyn Academy of the Arts High School and the College of Insurance (NY, NY; 1968). He regaled all who would listen with the tales of growing up in Far Rockaway, NY; travels in Europe and Asia, with his dearest friend, Bob Gold; bicycle pilgrimages to Iowa each July for RAGBRAI (23 times); family travels in Mexico, Guatemala, Europe, and Asia. As he would say, many of these stories actually happened. He directed his incredible energies to various careers and enterprises: from computer companies (CompuMat) to options trading to property development. He was among the first market makers on the day that the Chicago Board of Options opened in 1973. He was proud of his affiliations and many years serving on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Board of Options, the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, and as an adviser to the New York Stock Exchange. He was challenged and energized by his work on numerous committees for these financial institutions. He loved to learn, about everything. His quick mind and keen judgment were treasured. He served enthusiastically on the Board of Neumann Family Services and was a great supporter of El Valor Corporation, in Chicago. He is survived by his wife (Michelle Marmé) and son (Matthew Marmé Power), as well as three children from his marriage to Ginger Urban Power: Constance Power, William R. Power III (Brenda Nadeau Power), and Christine Power Jinkens (George Jinkens). He is mourned by his sister, Patricia (George) Merz, and brother, John (Barbara) Power, mother-in-law, siblings-in-law, nieces & nephews, great-nieces, and cherished friends/family around the world. Following Bill’s wishes, no visitation or formal service will be held at this time. A private celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date. We invite you to share your memories and your love for Bill with those closest to you. Condolences may be expressed at https://www.elegycremation.com/obits.
