A former chairman of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission has expressed an interest in becoming governor of the Bank of England.
During his two years at the helm of the regulator, Christopher Giancarlo worked closely with the Bank to block the European Union’s attempts to impose controls on British and American clearing houses. Although he has not publicly declared his interest in the job, sources told the Financial News that he was considering his prospects.
Mr Giancarlo, 60, could be an attractive option for Boris Johnson, the frontrunner to be prime minister. It is understood that Mr Johnson wants a foreign candidate with a strong presence on the international stage while Britain is preparing to leave the EU.
The governor of the Bank
