American Express CFO Henry planning to retire

NEW YORK (AP) -- American Express Chief Financial Officer Dan Henry is planning to retire after 23 years with the financial services company.

In a letter sent to employees on Tuesday, Chairman and CEO Kenneth Chenault said that American Express will look for a new CFO with help from Henry.

Chenault said that the process will likely take a couple of months, and that Henry — who will turn 64 this year — will remain as CFO until his successor is in place.

Henry has served as CFO at American Express Co. since 2007. He's held a variety of positions with the New York company, including leading the finance team that was the U.S. consumer, small business and merchant services group and serving as corporate comptroller for 10 years.

Shares of American Express edged up 13 cents to $70.19 in morning trading Tuesday. They are near the high end of their 52-week range of $53.02 to $71.09.
