The Private Pension Administrator Malaysia (PPA) has appointed Dato’ Steve Ong Chong Gain as its Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1 October 2012.
Dato’ Steve Ong's appointment was made with the approval of the Securities Commission Malaysia. The PPA was launched by the Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak on 18 July 2012.
Prior to his appointment, Dato’ Steve Ong was the Chief Executive Officer of ING Funds Berhad, the company he was entrusted to start up in 2003. Dato’ Steve, a Certified Financial Planner and licensed Fund Management Representative, has 30 years’ experience in the capital market industry. He holds a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Malaysian Institute of Management - University of Bath, United Kingdom and Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Financial Management from Loughborough University of Technology, United Kingdom.
The PPA was established to administer, oversee, and promote the growth and operation of the PRS industry. While contributions would be channelled through the PRS providers, PPA will be responsible for facilitating transactions and maintaining all PRS-related transactions via a life-time PPA account that investors/members would open. The PPA is also responsible for the promotion and general awareness on PRS, and would serve as a resource centre for data and research on the PRS industry in Malaysia.
Incorporated as a company limited by guarantee, the PPA has public interest directors on its Board. Puan Zaiton Mohd Hassan is the Chairman of the PPA while the other members of the Board are Datuk Nozirah binti Bahari, Dato’ Dr Thillainathan A/L Ramasamy, Mr Ou Shian Waei and Encik Ahmad Zakie bin Ahmad Shariff.
