U.S. Options Trading Falls 16% in September From a Year Earlier

U.S. options volume fell 16 percent in September from the same month in 2011 as 329.6 million contracts traded, the Options Industry Council said today.
About 3.03 billion contracts traded in the first nine months of the year, the Chicago-based OIC said, a 14 percent decline from the same period in 2011. Average daily volume for the month was 17.3 million, the highest mean level since February while down 6.9 percent from the previous September.
