The share values of publicly listed exchanges held steady during July, with the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index experiencing only a marginal movement of 0.5 per cent decrease during July.
While a number of exchanges continue to work together to provide new products and services across borders, the sector has remained fairly constant during the month with the majority of exchanges experiencing only slight share value movements.
Commenting on the Index which closed down at 20,276.66 on 31 July 2012, Herbie Skeete, Managing Director, Mondo Visione and Co-founder of the Index said:
"The exchanges in positive territory were pipped at the post by those in decline in the dog day of July,” he says.
The Index*, which aims to reflect market sentiment and is a key indicator of the exchanges’ performance, saw a 0.5 per cent decrease in July 2012.
The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index best performer by capital returns in US dollars was Brazil’s BM&F Bovespa with a 10.4 per cent increase in share price from 29 June to 31 July 2012. The next best performer was Canada’s TMX Group with an 8.5 per cent increase over the same period.
The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index worst performer by capital returns in US dollars was New Zealand’s NZX with a 12.5 per cent decrease in share price from 29 June 2012 to 31 July. This was followed by Poland’s Warsaw Stock Exchange with a 10.9 per cent decrease over the same period.
