Equities
The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in the first nine months totalled €529.09 billion, down 26.4% from the same period in 2011. The trading volume in September reached €48.74 billion, up 45% on August and down 17% from September 2011, when there were two more trading sessions.
The number of trades in the first nine months came in at 33.5 million, down 6% from the same period in 2011. The number of trades in September reached 2.5 million, up 7.4% from the same period last year and down 33% from September 2011.
As for the ETF segment, the trading volume to the end of September totalled €2.22 billion, down 9.8% from the same period last year. In September the trading volume came in at €274 million, down 60% from August 2012 and up 32% from September 2011.
The number of trades in ETFs to the end of September reached 45,392, up 32% from the same month in 2011. The number of trades in September came in at 4,967, up 22.4% year on year.
Futures and Options
Trading on BME’s Derivatives Market to the end of September totalled 52.3 million contracts, up 3.6% from the same period last year. The trading volume for September came in at 8.3 million contracts, up 3.2% from the same period last year.
Trading in Options on Stocks hit a record high in September from the previous record, set last March, at 4.88 million contracts, up 62.6% from September 2011. Trading in Options on Indices in September reached 493,982 contracts, up 125% from the same period last year. To the end of September, trading in Options on Stocks totaled 26.7 million contracts, up 31.5% from the same period in 2011 while trading in Options on Indices for the same period came in at 2.8 million contracts, up 75.3% from the first nine months of 2011.
Warrants and Certificates
The volume of warrants and certificates admitted to trading in 2012 totaled 4,776. Trading on this market in the first nine months totaled €634 million, down 50% from the same period in 2011. The trading volume in September came in at €67.2 million.
The number of trades to the end of September totaled 162,903, down 29% year on year. In September there were 17,810 trades on this market, up 6.3% from the previous month and down 36% from September 2011.
Corporate Debt
Trading on BME’s Corporate Debt market in the first nine months of the year totaled €1.8 trillion, down 56.8% year on year. The trading volume in September came in at €211.99, down 34.5% from September 2011. The number of trades for the first nine months reached 883,119, up 71.4% from the same period in 2011.
New issues in the first nine months totalled €282.41 billion, up 60.8% from the same period last year, exceeding the figure for the entire year 2011. In September new issues came in at €8.82 billion, down 13% year on year.
The outstanding balance at the end of September came in at €886.37 billion, up 5% year on year.
