The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), together with government and private sector units, will organize an annual contest to lay a strong foundation of economics, personal finance, insurance, and the sufficiency economy philosophy among youth, as one of the SET’s social activities to enhance education and learning for young generation.
The “Diamond Crown in Economics: Nern Tong Kong-Mee Ka and Sufficiency Economy Philosophy contest” is being organized for the fourth consecutive year on August 25-26. Other sponsors are The Capital Market Development Fund Foundation, CPF Trading Co., Ltd., The Crown Property Bureau, National Office of Buddhism, Nongpho Dairy Co-operative Ltd., Office of the Basic Education Commission, Romchatra Foundation, Satree Wittaya School II, and Thai Life Assurance Association.
“Thailand is moving towards the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015. Helping prepare youth to become a key component of Thailand’s workforce is really necessary. The country need to be alert and ready to cope with fiercer competition at the regional and global levels. Thus, the contest will useful for youth by enhancing their expertise in the related fields mentioned,” said SET President Charamporn Jotikasthira.
Building an understanding of economics and personal finance in youth is one of SET’s key activities. Over the past three years, a total of 6,000 students from 2,100 primary or secondary schools participated in this contest.
SET realizes the importance of corporate social responsibility and has incorporated it as a major part of its vision. Thus, this contest emphasizes one of its missions, which is to build a foundation of expertise about savings and personal finance among youth. Other activities include the SET Junior Financial Club and Young Financial Star Competition.
