The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced today that 325,813,094 total options contracts were traded in June, 12.63 percent less than the 372,928,893 contracts traded in June 2011.
Average daily trading volume for June was 15,514,909 contracts, 8.47 percent less than the 16,951,314 contracts in the same period last year. Trading volume for the first half of 2012 stood at 2,084,102,906 contracts, which is 6.02 percent lower than the 2,217,548,977 contracts traded throughout the first half of last year.
Equity options volume (options on individual stocks and ETFs) for June came in at 297,841,102 contracts, down 13.05 percent compared to June of last year when 342,530,588 contracts were traded. On average, 14,182,910 contracts changed hands each day in June, which is 8.91 percent less than the daily average of 15,569,572 contracts from June 2011. Equity options traded in the first six months of the year stood at 1,923,930,312 contracts, down 6.87 percent compared to the 2,065,770,914 contracts traded in the same period last year.
