The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) announced today the appointment of Anthony Suine as the pension fund’s new Benefit Services Division Chief.
Suine will oversee a staff of more than 250 and be responsible for the day-to-day operations of providing benefits to CalPERS retirees, beneficiaries and survivors, including service and disability retirements, death benefits, refunds and adjustments.
He will report to Donna Lum, Deputy Executive Officer of CalPERS Customer Services & Support. Suine starts September 1 and replaces Mary Lynn Fisher who is retiring after more than 34 years with CalPERS.
“Anthony was chosen for this position because of his excellent management and leadership skills and his experience with our retirement programs,” said Lum. “He will be an asset to our members and their families who count on us to deliver benefits and provide quality customer service.”

Suine brings more than 25 years of experience at CalPERS to his new job. He previously served in management roles in CalPERS Actuarial and Employer Services Division, Member Services Division and most recently as the Business Project Manager for the my|CalPERS project.
In his various positions, Suine has become an expert in building relationships with Public Agency and School employers, other State agencies and private entities. He has detailed knowledge of employer reporting, service credit purchases and the overall planning and administration of the retirement benefit program.
Suine holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Finance from California State University, Sacramento.
CalPERS, with assets of approximately $234 billion, is the largest public pension fund in the U.S. It administers retirement benefits for more than 1.6 million California State, local government, and public school employees, retirees, and their families on behalf of more than 3,000 public employers, and health benefits for more than 1.3 million enrollees. The average CalPERS pension benefit is $2,332 per month. The average benefit for those who retired in the most recent fiscal year that ended June 30, 2011, is $3,065 per month.
