BOSTON--()--State Street Corporation (NYSE: STT), one of the world's leading providers of financial services to institutional investors, announced today the appointment of Valerie Haertel as senior vice president of Investor Relations with responsibility for managing relationships with the company’s shareholders and analysts. Valerie replaces Kelley MacDonald who is retiring from State Street after leading the function for more than a decade.

A 20-year Investor Relations veteran, Haertel most recently held the position of vice president of Investor Relations for more than five years at Medco Health Solutions, Inc. Prior to Medco, she held various senior-level investor relations and management positions at Alliance Bernstein, RCN Corporation and NASDAQ. She has received numerous awards from Institutional Investor magazine, IR Magazine and Greenwich Associates for her top-ranked Investor Relations programs.

Haertel will work closely with Kelley MacDonald, who will remain the primary contact for investors and analysts through the third quarter, in order to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities.

“Our base of shareholders and analysts has increased significantly over the past few years, and we look forward to Valerie helping to continue executing a comprehensive investor relations program for these key audiences,” said Edward J. Resch, State Street’s chief financial officer. “She has strong relationships with both the buy and sell sides and will be an asset as we continue to expand our global investor base. I also want to thank Kelley MacDonald for her leadership, dedication and significant contributions to State Street’s investor relations program for the past decade.”

Haertel is a member of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI), the NIRI Speakers Bureau and the NIRI Senior Roundtable. She also previously served as Chapter President of NIRI-NY in 2004-2005, and served on the NIRI NY Chapter Board for six years through 2006. She is a member of the Investor Relations Association and served as an executive officer for four years. Haertel graduated from St. John’s University with a Bachelor of Science degree as well as a Master of Business Administration.
