GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Fifth Third Bank of Western Michigan has brought Tim Tierney back from its home office in Cincinnati to become its new executive vice president and retail executive.

The bank also announced Monday it has hired veteran public relations expert John Zimmerman as its new senior vice president and marketing director.

Tierney, a West Michigan native, had been senior vice president of Fifth Third Bank Corp. and head of its central operations in Cincinnati, where he was responsible for managing more than 2,200 employees who handle the holding company’s back office functions and call services.

A 16-year veteran of Fifth Third, Tierney also has leadership experience in marketing and consumer lending.

A graduate of Aquinas College, Tierney has served on several local boards, including the Grand Rapids Symphony, the Adoptive Family Support Network and the Aquinas College Alumni Association.

Zimmerman comes to Fifth Third from Michigan State University, where he was Senior Communications Director for the school’s College of Communication Arts and Sciences.

Previously, Zimmerman was a vice president for Seyferth PR, and prior to that, vice president of marketing and corporate communications for Mercantile Bank. For more than a decade, Zimmerman was the company spokesman for Meijer, Inc.

Zimmerman serves on the board of Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids and the marketing committee for LaughFest.

Fifth Third is Kent County’s largest bank with 42 offices and deposits of $2.8 billion, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
