Update: Syracuse lags nation in recovery from recession, Fed leader says. 8:15 AM

Syracuse, NY –The president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, who has a major voice in setting the nation's monetary policy, will visit the Syracuse area today to deliver a speech, meet with Syracuse University students and visit medical device maker Welch Allyn.

Fed President William C. Dudley will deliver a speech on regional and national economic conditions at the Center for Economic Development at the Syracuse Technology Garden in Syracuse at 7:15 a.m. Check back here for a report on his speech.

As the president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve in New York, Dudley serves as a permanent member of the Federal Open Market Committee which formulates the country’s monetary policy. Prior to joining the bank in 2007, Dudley had served as partner and managing director at Goldman, Sachs & Co., where he had been the firm’s chief U.S. economist.

At 11 a.m., Dudley will speak with students and faculty of SU's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in the Public Events Room at Eggers Hall.

Dudley is scheduled to visit Welch Allyn in Skaneateles Falls at 2:35 p.m.
