The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)’s Capital Market Research Institute (CMRI), gears up SET business strategy to strengthen Thai capital market’s capability by sponsoring research produced by 15 leading educational institutions, to promote sustainable capital market development.
CMRI provides the opportunity for a new generation of researchers to produce quality work on the capital market through the annual Sponsorship Research on the Capital Market project, now being held for the second consecutive year. Apart from the educational institutions, the project has gained attention and good cooperation from participants in the capital market in giving advices and exchanging views in practical term for researchers, said Veerathai Santiprabhob, SET Chief Strategy Officer.
“The global capital market continues its endless growth with sustained and rapid innovation in products and services. Thus, knowledge insights from academic research will be useful for making decisions in capital market policy, developing businesses in the capital market, and making prudent investment decisions. The educational sector is a key participant to ensure the Thai capital market’s continuous development. On the other hand, business operators in the capital market can supply knowledge about practices for the educational sector. The project will link educational and capital market institutions so that by working closely together, they can explore topics in depth that are truly applicable in practice.
For the 2012 sponsorship project, CMRI will grant financial support for research by 15 educational institutions and provide advice to contestants through its Clinic for Capital Market Research, enabling them to have a deeper understanding of capital markets. Each institution can submit two research projects, which must be presented at an annual symposium to be held next in January 2013. The CMRI research judging committee will consist of distinguished academics and professionals in the capital market organization.
