Lowitt Is Leaving Barclays

Ian Lowitt, a senior officer at Barclays and the last chief financial officer of Lehman Brothers, is leaving the British bank, according to a firm spokeswoman.

“Ian Lowitt will be leaving Barclays to pursue another opportunity,” the Barclays spokeswoman said. “He will work with us during a transition, and we wish him all the best.”

The spokeswoman said Mr. Lowitt was leaving the firm to do something else; however, it’s not known what his next gig will be. Mr. Lowitt did not return a call seeking comment.

Mr. Lowitt is the chief operating officer for the firm’s wealth management unit in the United States. But he is perhaps best known for his role at Lehman, where he took over as chief financial officer in the firm’s final months.

Lehman’s top officers scattered after the firm filed for bankruptcy in the fall of 2008. A handful ended up at Barclays, which bought some of the assets of the defunct broker.
