U.K. to Start $1.6 Billion Carbon-Capture Contest in Recess

The U.K. government will start a 1 billion-pound ($1.6 billion) program to fund carbon capture and storage projects during the parliamentary recess as it seeks to reduce costs and commercialize the technology.

The competition for the equipment that gathers emissions for permanent storage underground will open during the break, which starts today and ends April 16, according to a written statement from Ed Davey, secretary of state for energy and climate change, published on his department’s website.
