Romney calls White House plan to curb oil market abuses a ‘gimmick’
Romney wasn’t impressed.
“These policies will do nothing to reduce energy prices, expand domestic production, or strengthen the American economy. And they will not distract the American people from the President’s consistent record of sacrificing America’s energy future to appease the environmental extremists in the Democratic Party,” he said.
Romney’s energy and environmental platform calls for stripping EPA’s power to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and expanding oil-and-gas leasing to include areas that are currently off-limits, including the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Several top Democrats applauded the White House plan.
“Today, the President announced responsible actions to curb excess speculation in energy markets that drives up prices at the pump and causes pain for millions of middle class Americans,” said Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), the House Democratic leader, in a statement.
She said Democrats “stand ready to act on these proposals now.”
