ROFEX ended the year with a significant increase in trading volume.
During 2011, a total of 9,940,260 tonnes were traded in agricultural contracts, up 40 percent from 2010, when 7,080,350 tonnes were traded. These figures confirm the continuous growth experienced by agricultural futures at ROFEX. As regards the monthly activity, July became the best month of 2011 in this Market’s division, with more than 1 million tonnes traded. Meanwhile, and after a significant activity in Soybean with Delivery futures trading, the April 8 trading session reached a record of 113,850 tonnes traded in only one day.
On the other hand, ROFEX´s financial derivatives division ended the year with more than 54,669 million dollars traded. ROFEX´s two new contracts, gold and oil futures, had a significant participation in said volume, boosted by US dollar trading. Both contracts reached in 2011 a total of 141,869 ounces and 154,480 barrels, respectively.
Besides, in the last month of the year, ROFEX launched a new product that can be traded at both divisions of the Market: the Chicago Soybean futures contract, which registered 23,490 tonnes in just 15 days of trading.
In 2011, ROFEX was chosen by FOW (Futures and Options World) Magazine as the most innovative Market of Latin America regarding products´design. It was the first market in the region to receive this award.
