Stephen Luparello, the former director of the division of trading and markets at the Securities and Exchange Commission, will join Citadel Securities next month as general counsel.
The move comes as Citadel Securities — the market-making arm of Citadel, which runs a separate hedge fund — pushes ahead with plans to expand in asset classes and geographies.
Citadel Securities, launched in 2002, trades one in five of all equity shares that change hands in the US and more than a third of US retail equities volume.
