Former Head of Barclays’ Mergers Unit to Join Goldman

The former global head of Barclays‘ mergers and acquisitions business, Paul G. Parker, is set to join one of his former rivals, Goldman Sachs.

Mr. Parker has been hired as a co-chairman of Goldman’s mergers unit, a spokesman for the bank said on Sunday. He will serve in that role alongside Jack Levy and Tim Ingrassia, and he will start in a few weeks.

The global heads of the team remain Gene T. Sykes and Gregg R. Lemkau.

Mr. Parker’s reappearance, first reported by The Financial Times, comes roughly three months after he left Barclays amid a string of prominent departures. He had joined Barclays when the bank acquired the North American banking operations of his then-employer, Lehman Brothers, in the fall of 2008.

By the time he had left, he had been working on transactions like Valeant Pharmaceuticals‘ hostile bid for the Botox maker Allergan and Comcast‘s $45 billion takeover of Time Warner Cable.
