Australia’s carbon emissions are forecast to rise significantly by the end of the decade with Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s climate policies, while the U.S. and China take steps to curb greenhouse gas pollution.

Australia’s emissions by 2020 are set to increase to more than 50 percent above 1990 levels, according to the Climate Action Tracker, a joint project by four European institutions. There’s “no credible analysis” showing Australia will achieve its pledge of cutting emissions by 5 percent below 2000 levels by the end of the decade, it found.
