If there's one thing that can ruin a fun night out, it's the bill at the end of the party. But, if you like trading and drinking, that unusual combination comes together at The Bar Stock Exchange (TBSE).

Launched by Mihir Desai and Amit Singh of Corum, the hospitality company behind The Big Bang Bar and Masala Zone, the nouveau bar concept is based on stock exchanges.

In a chat with ETPanache, Desai tells us how the idea is already a hit:

    Concept calling

Conceptualised on the lines of our infamous stock exchanges, TBSE is India's first stock market-based pub chain where the drink prices change based on real time demand and supply.

We use technology to monitor this demand supply algorithm, so TBSE offers an experience where you can monitor the price of your favourite stock (aka drink) and trade in real time.

    Design matters

In keeping with the concept, we have designed the entire bar to simulate a real stock exchange, with proprietary software and trading servers. The pub is also lined with LCD screens, LED tickers and the legendary stock market 'gong', all of which add the 'traders' charm to this fun concept.

    Keeping track

Customers can trade via an app or live at the venue. The algorithm is simple -all spirits start at a base price and are governed by the laws of demand and supply. Based on frequency of order and the time periods within which different customers place orders, the demand of a particular spirit, wine or beer grows or declines and the prices go up or down.

Once every day, the market crashes as well, so customers can trade their favourite spirits and purchase at rock bottom prices. Trading then begins all over again from this new set base price.

That makes me want to mix drinks

(Laughing) We promote responsible drinking. Also, we have observed that most people stick to their favourite type of alcohol be it wine, vodka, whiskey, beer, rum but due to the price variation, often shift from domestic to imported varieties and vice versa.

    Not a regular evening out

Almost every Indian loves trading. TBSE aims to create an environment where the customer always wins. Think of it as happy hours where you control the prices of all the drinks any time. You still chill with your friends but in an all new innovative and exciting way.

    Market favourites

Old Monk, Budweiser, Miller, Black Label, Jagerbombs and Smirnoff.
