European natural gas trading rose to a record on the Intercontinental Exchange Inc. last year as the continent faced the threat of supply disruptions from Russia.

Trading of U.K. gas gained 84 percent from a year earlier, while Dutch volumes almost tripled, according to data from ICE Futures Europe and ICE Endex. Price swings on the benchmark U.K. contract climbed to their highest since 2011 in September as a price and debt dispute between Ukraine and Russia threatened to disrupt flows to Europe for a third time since 2006.
