The series of events launched by SIX Swiss Exchange in April for professional investors was successfully held for the third time on 1 September.
Some 40 members of the Swiss ETF community attended the ETF/ETP Roundtable, which was held in a new design for the third time. Attendees in the SIX ConventionPoint were market participants working in the field of asset management at banks along with institutional investors and financial journalists.
Participants listened attentively to the explanations given by panellists Henry Reece (Susquehanna), Jörg Sengfelder (Flow Traders) and Oliver Heusser (Bank Julius Baer). Chair James Guthrie (Deutsche Bank) expertly guided the discussion on the topic of "Increasing liquidity in ETFs/ETPs and funds". Various aspects of liquidity were addressed. The bid/offer price of an ETF, as a symbol of liquidity, was compared with trading volumes of a product and the frequency of quotes as additional liquidity characteristics. Current ETF and ETP trends were also discussed.
Danielle Mair, ETFs & ETPs Product Manager at SIX Swiss Exchange, stated: "We are delighted that we were able to provide the numerous participants who attended with a deeper insight into the very specific topic of market making and the characteristics of stock exchange liquidity". Danielle Mair kicked off the event with a presentation[pdf] offering a current overview of the latest figures from the ETF segment of SIX Swiss Exchange.
The next ETF/ETP Roundtable will be held on 4 December with Markus Fuchs (SFAMA), Marcel Aellen (independent consultant) and Rodolfo Straub (SIX Exchange Regulation). The participants will debate the topic "Regulatory outlook" under the moderation of Michael Rasch (NZZ).
