Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia” or “the Exchange”) today announced 58 winners of its first capital market-linked football game, the FANTASY FTBL.TRADR Challenge. Launched by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Encik Khairy Jamaluddin on 12 June, the challenge is targeted at Malaysian youth between 20 to 35-year of age, with the intention of engaging and drawing interest in trading in a new, unique and fun way. The challenge has successfully attracted more than 6,000 contestants of which 53% are within 18 – 30 years of age. It also received tremendous interest from the public where more than 1,000 leagues have been created throughout the campaign on Bursa MKTPLC.
After an intensive month of trading, [Fawwaz Fathil, 22] beat more than 6,000 contestants to capture the ‘Highest Overall Portfolio Value’ position to win the coveted RM20,000 cash prize for Overall League. “I am very glad I took part in the FANTASFTBL.TRADR Challenge. Although football is my passion I was a bit hesitant at first because as I had no knowledge in trading or investing. But having used the trading tools and knowledge gained, the experience has motivated me to start trading and investing in my financial future”, Fawwaz Fathil.
The Overall Highest Portfolio Value for Stage 1, Overall Highest Percentage Growth of Portfolio Value and Futures Fixtures prizes went to [David Khoo Chong beng, 41, Liew Li Yeow, 21 and Puravi Ganesh, 23] respectively, each receiving RM5,000 in cash. In the branded league, the Overall Kenanga Signature League and Overall Alliance Premium League winners received RM12,000 and RM8,000 respectively. The 2nd to 10th place winners walked away with cash prize ranging between RM6,000 - RM500. All winnings were credited into the recipient’s own Bursa Malaysia Central Depository System (“CDS”) linked trading account.

The FANTASY FTBL.TRADR Challenge was designed to inject new energy and dimension into the marketplace to engage existing investors and educate new investors, particularly Gen-Y group, on their journey to managing their own portfolios. The game was based on actual data from the FIFA world cup 2014 action in Brazil using the same stock portfolio management tools from BursaMKTPLC to manage a portfolio of players.
