January saw strong growth in trading volume for equity instruments. The level of activity in equity instruments was more than 20% higher than in January 2013.
- The value of average daily turnover was NOK 4.4 billion, with 89,000 transactions. Compared to January 2013, the level of activity was up by 21% in terms of the number of transactions and up by 28% in terms of value. The chart below shows trends in market activity over the last 12 months.
- Following six months of successive increases, the Oslo Børs Benchmark Index fell by 2.4% in January.
- The Benchmark Index closed at a new all-time high on seven days in January. From its peak of 565.16 on 21 January, the Benchmark Index was down by 5.2% at the end of the month.
- Over the period since 1996, the Benchmark Index has risen in January in 11 years and fallen in January in eight years.
