MGEX, a Designated Contract Market (DCM) and Derivatives Clearing Organization (DCO), reports a record-setting start to 2014. January 2014 reported 180,550 Hard Red Spring Wheat (HRSW) and Apple Juice Concentrate (AJC) futures and options contracts traded, the 13th best month in Exchange history and an 87 percent increase over January 2013.
This month’s volume was complimented by two top 20 daily Exchange volume record days and two top 15 record daily electronic volume days.
With 151,260 total electronic trades, that marks number eight on the monthly electronic volume records. Additionally, January 2014 was the best January on record regarding electronic trading volume and overnight volume.
Open interest hit record highs with six days in January 2014 represented on the daily Exchange open interest records. Month end open interest came in at 78,265 open contracts, number seven on the daily open interest records.
HRSW dominated most of the contracts with 177,410 futures contracts and 2,922 options contracts. AJC accounted for 38 futures contracts and 180 options contracts.
