Exchanges have an increasingly important role as guardians of corporate governance, said Singapore Exchange chief executive Magnus Bocker on Monday.
Good governance will allow more efficient access to capital, and robust governance means fewer roadblocks for investors and investments, he noted at the first day of the Global Corporate Governance Conference at Resorts World Sentosa.
The conference is part of the Singapore Corporate Governance Week organised by the Securities Investors Association (Singapore).
"Good governance leads to better efficiency of markets," Mr Bocker said.
He also touched on gender diversity in boards, noting its paucity especially in Asia.
