HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Straus Medina Stream Mitigation Bank (SMSMB) is located in Bexar County, outside of San Antonio, Texas. SMSMB is designed to be a valuable tool to offset environmental impacts near the fast-growing metropolitan area. Bexar County, the City of San Antonio, multiple transportation entities, private development, and other flood control projects will benefit from this bank. With the MBI’s signing, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) released 2,985 TxRAM stream credits.
The SMSMB plan will result in restoration and enhancement of approximately 36,950 linear feet of perennial, intermittent, and ephemeral streams. The bank will have a positive environmental effect on more than 25 square miles of the San Antonio River watershed. Advantages of the bank include improved water quality, floodplain relief, enhanced fish and wildlife habitat, and reduced silt and sediment loads. SMSMB will benefit San Antonio residents with these environmental improvements.
Situated in eastern Bexar County, SMSMB serves: Bexar, Comal, Kendall, Guadalupe, and other surrounding counties. The service area’s watershed covers Cibolo, Medina, and the Upper San Antonio. With a signed MBI and credits released, the USACE approves the bank and we are now authorized to provide a solution to help keep projects moving forward.
