Australia supports developing its offshore wind-power capacity, Environment Minister Greg Hunt said Tuesday, signaling a shift in the government’s attitude toward an industry that the previous prime minister rejected as ugly and noisy.

“We will try to facilitate offshore wind,” Hunt said Tuesday in remarks to renewables investors at a Bloomberg New Energy Finance conference in Shanghai. “There are some significant opportunities that are close to the electricity backbone and I think there are likely to be some major international financing and investment opportunities on a grand scale.”
