- The Futures Masters competition which introduced a large group of investors to the specificity of futures contracts has just closed. The list of finalists was published on the www.futuresmasters.pl website on 11 March 2015.
- Nearly 8.5 thousand participants joined the competition and on average more than 2 thousand participants were active at each session.
- The Futures Masters competition engaged an analytical Dream Team from 11 brokerage houses.
- The competition spanned five weeks and offered five opportunities to win cash and non-cash prizes in a total amount of PLN 70 thousand.
GPW (Warsaw Stock Exchange), the Central Securities Depository of Poland (KDPW) and KDPW_CCP have published the results of the Futures Masters competition organised in partnership with the Association of Individual Investors (SII) and brokerage houses. The list of finalists has been published yeasterday on the website www.futuresmasters.pl. The competition participants invested virtual capital in exchange-traded futures and could make genuine winnings.
“The goal of the Futures Masters competition is to promote investing in exchange-traded futures. Together with our partners, we wanted to demonstrate that GPW’s derivatives market offers interesting investment alternatives. The number of competition participants and their activity at trading sessions attest to the success of the project. We hope that the Futures Masters competition will be the first step for participants to invest on the genuine derivatives market,” said Grzegorz Zawada, Vice-President of the Management Board of GPW. “Futures Masters is a special educational project as it engaged the biggest group of contributors ever in the history of the Polish capital market, including no less than 11 brokerage houses and the Association of Individual Investors,” said Grzegorz Zawada.

The competition attracted 8,441 participants. They were helped by the market’s leading analysts: the analytical Dream Team. The competition was supported by eleven mentors:

The participants could invest in futures contracts: FW20H1520, FW40H15 and FUSDH15. The most popular futures were the USD/PLN currency futures in which more than 6.7 trades were made, followed by the WIG20 futures and the mWIG40 futures.
On average, 2,120 participants were active (i.e., made at least one trade) at each session. The volume of trade in the five editions of the competition in all instruments available to participants was more than 9.5 million contracts. The highest return on investment in the five editions was 82.42%, 77.36%, 82.71%, 86.73% and 55.34%, respectively. The three best day-traders’ return was 54.7%, 44.36% and 42.56%.
The Futures Masters competition spanned from 26 January to 27 February 2015 and was divided into five editions, each starting on Monday and ending on Friday. Participants could join the competition throughout that period. The Futures Masters competition was addressed to fans of the futures market and all those who wanted to use interesting practical tools to discover the opportunities offered by investing in futures contracts listed on GPW. Participation in the competition was open and free of charge. The competition was accompanied by training sessions, mentor meetings and webinars.
