Goldman Names New Head of Enterprise Technology Investment Banking

Goldman Sachs has given one of its senior technology bankers the expanded title of global head of enterprise technology investment banking, according to an internal memorandum reviewed by DealBook on Thursday.

Ryan Limaye, the head of communications technology banking for the firm, will add oversight of software investment banking to his responsibilities and is expected to help the bank garner new clients and assignments in his new role.

Among the transactions he has worked on are the initial public offerings of Riverbed Technology, Juniper Networks and the security software providers Palo Alto Networks and FireEye. He was also involved in deals like the sale of Starent Networks to Cisco, as well as 3Com to Hewlett-Packard, and the merger of Alcatel and Lucent.

He joined Goldman in 1994, helping to build the firm’s communications technology efforts, and was promoted to managing director in 2001, and partner the next year.

A spokesman for the firm confirmed the authenticity of the memo, sent by the technology investment banking chief, Daniel Dees, and technology, the media and telecommunications chairman, George Lee.

Ryan Limaye to Become Global Head of Enterprise Technology Investment Banking

We are pleased to announce that Ryan Limaye will become global head of Enterprise Technology investment banking. In this expanded role, Ryan will oversee both the Software and Communications Technology investment banking efforts. He will collaborate closely with our co-heads of Software investment banking, Tom Ernst and Ward Waltemath, while continuing to lead the firm’s Communications Technology sector.

The software sector continues to evolve rapidly on a global basis and presents significant strategic opportunities for our clients and commercial opportunities for the firm. Working together with Tom and Ward, Ryan will help to strengthen our client relationships and expand our coverage footprint in this highly important sector.

Ryan currently serves as head of Communications Technology investment banking and has built the leading franchise on Wall Street in the sector since joining Goldman Sachs in 1994. He has focused on the technology sector for the last 20 years and has worked on numerous mergers and acquisitions, IPOs and significant financings of leading technology companies. Ryan was named managing director in 2001 and partner in 2002.
