The Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation (TWSE) and Macquarie Capital Securities (HK) is pleased to co-organize the Taiwan Investment Seminars in Hong Kong and Singapore from March 10 to March 13, 2015. The delegation led by Dr. Nai-kuan Huang, Senior Executive Vice-President responsible for international business at TWSE, together with the participation of ten large-scale up-and-coming enterprises have drawn strong attention from local institutional investors. TWSE also took the opportunity to share ideas with institutional investors on the latest developments in Taiwan capital market during the luncheon seminars.
TWSE has continuously promoted foreign investment into Taiwanese securities. As of February 2015, the composition of foreign shareholders has reached a record of 39.26% of the total market capitalization. These shareholders represent a significant investors group in Taiwan and highlighted TWSE’s achievement in attracting foreign capital flows. Singapore and Hong Kong have long been the leading and established financial centers in the Asia-Pacific region. Both markets boast a large pool of fund managers. In addition, major investment firms headquartered in the US or Europe, typically have their investment decision-making units for Asia-pacific region in either city.
The companies that participated in the investment seminars came from a broad range of industries including the electronics, pharmaceutical, food and textiles manufacturing sectors, etc. During the seminar in Singapore and Hong Kong , more than 283 one-on-one sessions with over 90 institutional investors were arranged. The presenting companies highlighted the prospects, core-advantages and competitiveness of the Taiwanese industries to showcase investment opportunities for foreign investors in Taiwan.
Macquarie Securities not only assisted the participating companies to meet with Institutional Investors in Singapore, they also invited many large-scale financial institutions to attend TWSE’s keynote luncheon titled “Taiwan Capital Market Blueprint and latest development”. More than 30 institutions, including asset management firms, brokers and insurance companies attended the event.
Rebecca Chen, Executive Vice-President of TWSE Trading Department underlined the recent strong performance of the Taiwan securities market, in particular, to the market ‘Ascension Plan’ outlined by Tseng Ming-Chung, Chairman of Taiwan Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) in February. The plan covers 5 elements including listing, trading, products development, business scope for securities firms, and connectivity with international markets. This seminar aims to communicate to the Singaporean institutional investors on the planning, strategic development of the Taiwan’s market, TWSE’s commitment in setting up the TWSE-SGX trading link, as well as to enhance international investors’ understanding of the Taiwan’s capital market.
The participating institutions were notably interested in the recent deregulation and the introduction of new products. After the seminar, many institutions also exchanged ideas and opinions with TWSE officials which demonstrated the level of interest investors have on Taiwan’s latest developments.
