R.B.S. Appoints New Chairman for Asia

The Royal Bank of Scotland announced a new chairman for Asia on Monday, in the latest high-level executive change at the bank.

R.B.S. said Donald Workman had been named executive chairman of its Asia unit, succeeding John McCormick, who is leaving the bank after 17 years of service.

The departure of Mr. McCormick is the latest top-level change at the bank this year, including those of the head of investment banking and the chief financial officer, as the chief executive, Steven Hester, realigns his management team.

R.B.S., in which the British government holds an 81 percent stake after providing a bailout, has eliminated more than 30,000 jobs since the financial crisis; this month it announced a new round of 1,400 job cuts.

The bank, which is based in Edinburgh, swung to profit in the first quarter from a large loss in the period a year earlier, and said it hoped to start reducing the government’s stake next year.

Mr. Workman, a 21-year veteran of the bank, most recently served as the head of the asset protection program, a role that focused on the restructuring effort. In his new role, he will report John Owen, the head of international banking, as well as to the co-heads of the capital markets business at the bank.
